Osasuna Falls to Getafe but Secures LaLiga Survival

Club Atlético Osasuna (11-9-17, 42 points) lost 1-0 at Getafe (14-6-17, 48 points) at the Coliseum on Saturday night, but secured its place in Spain’s top division thanks to a draw between Elche and Girona.

Osasuna started threatening Getafe’s goal early, creating several chances and earning multiple corners in the opening minutes. Midfielder Lucas Torró had two good opportunities with headers—one saved by goalkeeper David Soria and the other off target. Shortly after, forward Raúl García had the best chance for Osasuna in a one-on-one, but his shot was saved by the local goalkeeper. As the match progressed, Getafe began to press, but Osasuna’s defense held firm. Midfielder Luis Milla forced a save from goalkeeper Sergio Herrera on a direct free kick, and defender Zaid Romero also tested the keeper from distance.

Early in the second half, Getafe went ahead after a shot by Milla was deflected by defender Alejandro Catena and ended up in the net. Osasuna head coach Alessio Lisci made substitutions and changed the system in pursuit of an equalizer. Catena and defender Valentin Rosier both tried from long range, but their shots were blocked. Despite Osasuna’s efforts, Getafe’s defense stood strong. In the final minutes, midfielder Asier Osambela and Raúl had opportunities for the visitors, but the equalizer did not come.

Despite the defeat, Osasuna will remain in La Liga and play its eighth straight season in Spain’s top flight.
